Final Project- Technology Integration Plan

Final Project- Technology Integration Plan

My integrated lesson focuses on the importance of physical activity and healthy choices in the daily lives of students. The target audience of my lesson is high school students, with a focus on twelfth grade. It explains the changes that occur to the body through physical activity and why it is important to know what health options are best. The changes that the heart endures during a workout is extremely important. Knowing the proper level of performance needed in order to burn calories and get a good workout is valuable as well. The lesson also incorporates different technological uses to enhance the understanding of different types of movement and how we can track progress.

Fitness Apps (AFit, My Fitness Pal)

The first row, line three, of my matrix represents the portion of the lesson where the teacher is helping the students brainstorm on what it means to be physically fit. They will think of different heart raising activities. I will explain to the students that they will have to analyze different forms of movement and how different exercises require a higher intensity of work. While the students think of creative and innovative ways to be active, I will explain the importance of heart rate. The students will know how to take a pulse manually, where to take it, and other methods of tracking your heart during physical activities.  The focus for this portion of the lesson is tracking heart rate and what percentage our hearts are working at when we are physically active, while introducing modern technology to enhance the lesson. Using a heart rate monitor or a fitbit students will be able to keep track of body changes without having to stop moving, or stop the fun.

The second row, line four, of this matrix is the actual activity. This is where students and I will get most of the data to track their movement. This activity will start with a demonstration by the teacher. I will demonstrate each activity and show students how to check their heart rate and record the changes in their bodies, for example their muscles. After constant movement muscles usually start to fatigue. It is important for students to know this and how they should react if it occurs. Then they will work together in small groups at different levels of workout intensities.  This is great for students to communicate and collaborate, while still taking away valuable lessons. There will be four groups; one doing steps, jump rope, basketball, and dance dance revolution (DDR). DDR is a way to modernize the lesson so the students are intrigued, but still learning the vital take home message. After the students complete this activity they will work with their partners and discuss how each activity differed from the other and the different changes that occurred to their bodies and hearts. The students will understand the important of knowing the changes and record all of their data and results.

In the third row, line five,  the students will be able to discuss what it means to be physically fit and why it is important. The class will start by discussing how they did during each activity, how are they physically fit now, and how they can enhance their health awareness. This will help students become more aware of their bodies and how to continue a healthy lifestyle for the rest of their lives. In addition, if they have anything that they want to learn then we can address that. Students will have to research and determine which activity is appropriate for their age and workout intensity. Students will also be introduced to fitness apps so it can be easier to track progress. Applications like my fitness pal and  Afit, will expand the students knowledge on the best food choices and caloric intake throughout their days. I will guide the students on healthy options and how to portion control their plates. This will be the closing to the lesson, which is the most important, because developing healthy students will mean having healthier individuals in our society now and for the future.

This lesson allows students to better understand their bodies. The uses of technology helps reinforce the message and importance of constant movement. The DDR is one of the best and easiest ways to promote fitness while having fun.  The fitbit and fitness apps allows for easy tracking. The students will explore how to be healthier individuals and to continue it in their everyday lives. By the end of this lesson they will have practiced movement, body mechanics, intensity control and technological uses. This lesson will meet all of the focus areas for health and physical education.
