http://www.shapeamerica.org/

This website is very informative. It introduces PE and Health teachers to the democratic side of education. This site takes PE and health outside of the classroom, and really tries to make a difference in America.  It give standards and guidelines, different uses of technology in the classroom, offers scholarships and grants, offers professional development, accreditations, holds conferences and events, and advocates for the cause.  This website allows PE teachers to share and receive ideas, and expand their influence in physical fitness. This website helps PE teachers stay active and up to date in the classroom and the community.

This is a free website. You can create an account if you would like to be more active and receive emails. This website introduces a more active side to physical education or health in the classrooms. I give this website a 5 out of 5 because it is extremely proactive in shaping a healthier society. It is important for students to understand the benefits of being healthy and fit while they are young. This site offers different resources to help us all get ideas on how to be a healthier America. I do not believe there are any limitations with this site, however I do wish it was more popular and the ideas for the disciplines of PE and health, were widely broadcasted .

Supporting Instruction with Technology

Maintaining Target Heart Rates Using DDR
My coggle:

This lesson in particular stood out because understanding of the body during physical activity is extremely important. Monitoring heart rate is a factor most people overlook when participating in physical activity. It is imperative to know your resting heart rate and when you reach your target heart rate. Many times over exert themselves because they do not know this. The fact that this is being taught in education at a high school level is great!

There weren't any gaps between the curriculum goals, teaching strategies, and or technologies. The three components were in complete alignment because they complimented one another. The goal was to have the students maintain and track their heart rate at rest and when they did different activities. Using the heart monitor was a good incorporation because it allowed the students to experience a form of digital technology on a personal level. Adding DDR along with the usual activities such as running, jumping and walking gave a more modern and technologically approach to support the fact that heart rate can be monitored through old pedagogical routines in PE and new ones as well.

Coggle is an awesome avenue for planning a lesson. In PE it would be great for dividing students up into teams and forming strategies. In health it can also be useful by picking a topic such as, sexual transmitted diseases or gender identity and branching out different categories. The ability to branch off of an idea with an extended thought was interesting. Also being able to change the colors of each idea was exciting. Overall it is a positive new pedagogical approach to merging and supporting the relationship between technology and education.

Get Moving: C-Fit Yoga

Get Moving: C-Fit Yoga

C-Fit Yoga is an app that allows physical education teachers to keep student healthy and active with a variety of yoga poses. This app allows teachers to enhance student's flexibility, while strengthening their muscles and improving balance. Yoga can also improve a student’s range of motion, body posture and alignment. This app provides videos that help teach how to relax even in the midst of a chaotic environment. Most importantly it helps with anxiety; teaching deep breathing techniques.  This app allows Physical Education teachers to sample multiple positions, and how to implement relaxing and helpful movements in Physical Education.

This is not a free app, it cost $2.99. That is a onetime fee no subscription is needed. I give this app a 5 out of 5 because it introduces an unfamiliar movement, which is extremely beneficial. Enjoying the yoga movements and styles myself, I know the importance of an activity such as this. With more and more students being diagnosed with learning disorders, anxiety, depression, and more activities such as yoga is important to relax the mind, while still strengthening the body. This app has the limitation of cost, although it is not expensive parents or schools may not approve of the fee especially if it is for every student. However, it is a great movement forward incorporating technology and a physical activity such as yoga in the classroom.

Monitor Progress: AFIT

Monitor Progress: AFIT

AFIT is an amazing app for Physical Education and Health Teachers. This app allows students to navigate their own health by closely keeping track of everything they do and eat. Students learn about nutrition and physical activity while encouraged to live a healthier lifestyle. This app gives clear positive images of what a healthy plate should consist of; how many glasses of water should be consumed, dairy intake, and proper amount of fruits. This app allows Physical Education teachers to sample lesson of how to implement healthy positive habits in Physical Education. This app is great for monitoring student’s health and physical activity outside of the classroom. Teachers are allowed to place each student in their class into a list and follow the student as they log in their progress.

This is not a free app, it cost $0.99. That is a onetime fee no subscription is needed, which is a plus! This application is a necessity not only in the physical education classrooms, but for athletes involved in sports. I give this app a 5 out of 5 because I think it is an awesome way for both the teacher and student to foster a healthier lifestyle. The fact that this is all monitored through an app makes it super convenient for both the teacher and student. The only limitation I see with this app is that students may feel the need to be dishonest because they know that the teacher is able to see what their progress is.
